Last week, the nautical world set sail for the 24th annual Monaco Yacht Show, where hundreds of luxury yacht builders, designers, and manufacturers congregated in and around Port Hercules to unveil their latest inspirations. This year, there was much buzz about SeaXplorer, the Damen Group’s new superyacht that can break through polar ice. After several years of research, the Dutch-based shipyard, in collaboration with yacht builder Amal and Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture, created a reinforced “sea axe” hull designed to break through thick sheets of ice, allowing the vessel to access some of the globe’s most remote locations. SeaXplorer will come in 65-, 90-, and 100-foot models, with the largest accommodating 30 guests and 50 crew members, two helicopters, and two submarines. All three yachts have the ability to travel for up to 40 days at speeds of 16 knots without having to port.
Unlike traditional yachts, the SeaXplorer can navigate through both icy and tropical waters.
The SeaXplorer has been designed to move forward and backward through ice roughly three feet thick.
The 65- and 90-foot models can accommodate one helicopter, while the 100-foot model has room for two.
Owners will be able to customize the yacht’s interior to their liking.
Passengers can take in beautiful views from the upper-level outdoor lounge.
