From its headquarters in Bordeaux, the French firm Atelier d’Architecture King Kong has recently released a proposal for a new metro station in Vitry-Sur-Seine, a southeastern suburb of Paris roughly seven miles from the Eiffel Tower. What’s most striking about the firm’s concept is the main concourse’s sloping green roof, which is designed to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood. Circular holes have been carved into the concrete canopy, allowing natural daylight to stream through the space, effectively linking the indoors to the outdoors.
The station will be connected to the red line of the Grand Paris Express, a year-old project aimed to bring more rapid modes of transportation around the dense city. Construction for various lines and metro stations for the Grand Paris Express are projected to continue through 2030.
