London-based architecture and design firm Jump Studios recently renovated a 19th-century Spanish battery factory to create Google’s new Campus Madrid—a coworking space for entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Madrid is the fourth city Google has included in its project to provide open networking space for start-ups to work, connect, and learn from one another. Campuses have already been launched in Tel Aviv, Seoul, Warsaw, and London, with the offices in England’s capital also outfitted by Jump Studios.
In Madrid, the design firm restored a five-story former battery factory to comfortably support some 10,000 members. The building, which was originally constructed in 1892, includes colorful splashes of Spanish style, such as the painting seen above, done by Spanish contemporary artist Ricardo Cavolo.
