The Frank Gehry takeover of Los Angeles, fall 2015 edition, is in full effect. Last month the maestro’s dazzling retrospective opened to great fanfare at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. On October 25 he will receive the Museum of California Design’s Henry Award for his extraordinary body of work, specifically in the smaller-scale design arenas of furniture, jewelry, lighting, and other objects loosely classified as decorative.

Gehry will accept the prize at the museum’s annual gala benefit, which will be held, appropriately, at JF Chen@1135, a veritable temple to the decorative arts. A special installation, “Frank Gehry: Forty Years of Product Design 1972–2012,” will accompany the event. It’s the first survey of the architect’s estimable exercises at the more diminutive end of the design spectrum.
