Foster + Partners Designs a New Terminal for Queen Alia Airport in Amman, Jordan

Inaugurated this spring, the latest tour de force by the architecture firm Foster + Partners is a terminal at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. The dramatic new structure is crowned by an undulating canopy of shallow concrete domes that suggests the rippling contours of Bedouin tents as well as the sheltering forms of desert palms. Overall, the stunning design reads like a Middle Eastern translation of the soaring vaults used by Eero Saarinen in his masterful terminals at Dulles and JFK.
