English architect Sir Christopher Wren was born on October 20, 1632. Wren designed Kensington Palace, Hampton Court Palace, the Royal Naval College, and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, as well as 51 London churches, including St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. As a former Oxford University student, Wren was commissioned to design a new bell tower for Christ Church college in 1682.
Wren was also called upon to rebuild St. Stephen Walbrook church after London’s Great Fire in 1666.
The buildings at the Old Royal Naval College were designed by Wren in the European Baroque style. Today they form the centerpiece of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.
